Quick Morning Reset – Monday Mindset Check-In
If you’re anything like me, by the time you actually sit down to work, it already feels like you’ve lived a whole day.
That’s why I started using a simple morning reset routine.
Not for the chaos of the morning rush but for my own professional well-being. It helps me shift gears, stay present, and focus on the work I love.
The Morning Rush (AKA the other full-time job):
Before I even start my workday, I’m already in full problem-solving mode: prepping breakfasts, checking sports kits, locating musical instruments, dealing with last-minute costume crises, and making sure homework is actually in the bag while constantly checking the time and shouting, "Hurry up!"
Then, during the school run, I somehow become a chauffeur, mediator, therapist, DJ and navigator of never-ending roadworks as I try to stay calm and grip the steering wheel. By the time I walk back through my front door, I’ve already played a dozen roles. I made a hundred decisions and probably negotiated world peace at least twice.
And yet, somehow… I’m just a mum. That’s what we do, right?
💡 But before I dive into my work, I sit down with a cup of coffee and take five minutes to reset with these four simple questions:
1. How am I feeling? One word. Acknowledge the emotion - whether it’s calm, tired, anxious, or motivated. Address any negativity before it lingers.
2. What’s my #1 priority? Not a to-do list - just one thing that must get done today. Clarity = focus.
3. What does success look like today? Define it. When will I know I’ve done enough? This prevents the guilt of unfinished tasks.
4. What support do I need? Maybe it’s help from someone, maybe it’s just remembering to drink enough water.
Since making this a habit, I feel more focused, more productive, and - most importantly - less guilty when the evening chaos kicks in.
💬 Now I’d love to hear from you! What’s your go-to routine or ritual for getting into “work mode”? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
