Nothing’s an emergency! (apart from the obvious)
It’s World Book Day. As I was dropping my kids off at school this morning and walking to their changing rooms, another mum arrived looking for her daughter, looking like she was in a hurry and a bit flustered.
Me: “Morning! Are you looking for your daughter? Is she in there?”
Mum: “Yes, I need to pass a message to her but I’m not allowed in the changing room.”
Me: “Just pop your head in and say her name.”
Mum: “But I’m not allowed in there.”
Me: (as my daughter walked out of the changing room) “Just pop your head in, nothing will happen.”
Mum: (She popped her head in and shouted her daughter’s name and left the message.)
As we walked outside, she told me that she was late, she needed to drive to London today, and her daughter left the broomstick at home for World Book Day!
Me: “Have a good day! Please, drive carefully!”
🔥 What I truly wanted to say was:
“Please take a couple of deep breaths in the car before you drive off so you can calm your nervous system before your journey.”
“Please look in the car mirror and tell yourself that you are an amazing mother and a dedicated professional, so you leave the carpark on a positive note and not with shaky hands.”
“Please remind yourself that we all forget things at times and that’s not the end of the world, your daughter will have a blast anyway!”
I hope she made it to London okay! 💛
Just one minute of self-reflection, mindset reset and self-compassion can make all the difference in your actions that follow.
